Video gaming giant Ubisoft to join Hedera’s Governing Council
Ubisoft, one of the world’s top video gaming publishers, is making giant strides in the crypto industry. The company has recently teamed up with HBAR Foundation, allowing it to support gaming on the Hedera decentralized network.
HBAR Foundation is the organization that manages the Hedera Network, a Distributed Ledger Technology (DLT) that uses a hashgraph consensus mechanism to keep the network secure and decentralized.
Ubisoft announced Thursday that it will join the Hedera Governing Council and use its computing power to operate a node on the Hedera network and verify transactions. The gaming mammoth will have a say on the network’s operations, along with supporting and launching next-generation gaming on Hedera.
Ubisoft’s latest move came after its “controversial” partnership with energy-efficient Tezos blockchain to launch the Ubisoft Quartz platform, a space that allows gamers to buy and sell in-game NFTs. The news sparked outrage amongst Ubisoft fans who targeted NFTs as bad for the environment.
However, the company explained that Tezos uses two million times less energy than a Bitcoin transaction, barely akin to the energy consumed via streaming a 30-second video.
