Coinbase strikes multi-year sponsorship deal with NBA
Major crypto exchange Coinbase has signed a multi-year historic deal with US National Basketball League (NBA), making it NBA’s first crypto partner.
The partnership deal will involve an exclusive contract extended to Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA), NBA G League, NBA 2K League, and USA Basketball, Coinbase announced on Tuesday.
Kate Rouch, Chief Marketing Officer of Coinbase, said in the announcement:
“As part of the partnership, we will create interactive experiences to engage with the NBA and WNBA’s incredible community and athletes around the world.”
The deal would include NBA uniforms featuring Coinbase’s logo throughout the association’s 75th anniversary season. As part of the deal, Copinbase would educate NBA fans on any latest developments in the crypto space as well as innovations and activations.
The move came as more and more crypto-related companies have immersed themselves in sports advertising.
NBA was already part of the crypto industry with its partnership with Dapper Labs. Dapper Labs is the creator of the popular NFT marketplace NBA TopShot that lets you trade, hold, and sell digital trading cards.
Meanwhile, Major League Baseball (MLB) recently inked a deal with crypto-asset derivatives exchange FTX in July.
