Twitter tests authentication function for NFTs

Social media giant Twitter is now testing out its new feature that lets users verify NFT ownership.

A video explaining the process was released by the Android tech lead of Twitter, Mada Aflak, who explained that the project is still in its early stages.

On the 24th of this month, Twitter announced the integration of Bitcoin with its tipping feature which allows anyone to tip their favorite creators on Twitter. The tip would solely go to the creator and Twitter would not take a cut from it.

Along with it, the company reported that it plans to support the verification of NFTs by allowing users to link to their crypto wallets. Specific details such as the date of release have not been revealed yet.

Recently, more and more accounts are using NFT images as their Twitter profile icons. However, the image can be duplicated by methods such as screenshots that can make it difficult to prove ownership of a particular NFT.

Therefore, Twitter is experimenting with a feature that will prove that the holder of the NFT used for the icon is the same as the owner of that Twitter account.

At the time, A company spokesperson told The Verge, “NFT authentication will come in the form of a badge, shown on profile pictures, marking the owner’s NFT as authentic.”
