Major US IT giant Google has partnered with Canadian blockchain and cryptocurrency-related company Dapper Labs to power Web 3 products and services including NFTs and blockchain games, Forbes magazine reported on the 14th.

As part of the deal which will last several years, Google Cloud will become Dapper Labs’ flow blockchain network operator, providing Flow with a scaling infrastructure.

Dapper Labs independently developed the blockchain network Flow that specializes in entertainment, and publishes popular NFT series including “NBA Top Shot” and “CryptoKitties”. The company’s CEO confirmed the partnership with Google via a Tweet on Tuesday.

In a conversation with Forbes, Janet Kennedy, VP of Google Cloud North America, remarked:

“Blockchain technology is becoming more and more mainstream. So companies like Dapper need scalable, secure infrastructure to grow their business, and even more importantly, support their networks.”

Partnership with Google will allow Flow developers to integrate with its software, offering them an added stimulus to choose Google Cloud over competitors. However, the node developers are still free to use Amazon Web Services or their own hardware and network.

Roham Gharegozlou, CEO of Dapper Labs, recently noted that the situation with blockchain today is somewhat similar to what happened when people began realizing that the iPhone was the future of cell phones. He said:

“What you’re seeing on blockchain today is the iPhone moment where consumers are starting to understand what’s going on. There’s tons of opportunity to build everything from the Flappy Bird to the Angry Bird of Flow and just blockchain in general.”

NFT has recently turned tables after becoming a multi-billion dollar industry and Dapper Labs have successfully capitalized on the booming market. Earlier this year, NBA legends Michael Jordan and Kevin Durant had joined Dapper’s $305 million funding round as investors. Other participating investors included Klay Thompson, Will Smith, and Ashton Kutcher.

Google Cloud has been actively supporting various blockchains including layer 2 solutions such as Polygon, Chainlink, and Ontology.
